We interviewed Ennio Capozza, owner of Viaggi Caribe and he explained why traveling to the Dominican Republic is the right choice for one’s dream vacation.
Traveling to the Dominican Republic? Sure, because it is a must-visit journey into the beauty, uniqueness and unmissable attractions of the island. A journey that starts from the eyes and experience of those who have made the Caribbean country their second home for more than a decade.
Ennio Capozza is Owner and General Manager of Viaggi Caribe, an outbound and inbound tour operator, licensed by the Ministry of Tourism of the Dominican Republic, that organizes trips to this dream place, made up of pristine beaches and crystal clear sea, but also magical places.
Places that are often hidden and little known, but that you can now live and discover through an experience that will absorb you with mind, soul, heart and body. Here is the first part of the interview with the owner of Caribe Travels.
Why choose to travel to the Dominican Republic for a dream vacation?
“To answer this question, I borrow a slogan used by the Dominican Republic’s Minister of Tourism, David Collado: “República Dominicana lo tiene todo,” which, translated into Italian, means, “It has everything.”
This slogan highlights the diversity of the country’s tourist attractions and its potential to attract visitors from all over the world. The announcement was made in 2021, in a context of promoting Dominican tourism also at international events such as the FITUR fair.
And, then, there is the beauty of the capital city, Santo Domingo, with about 7 million total inhabitants, 3 of whom live in the city’s suburbs and metropolitan area, known as Gran Santo Domingo. It is divided into different souls that make it unique, vibrant and extremely enjoyable, especially for those coming from Europe. There is the colonial part, full of history, culture, and architectural beauty, there is the new part where you can find glitz, good music, food of all kinds, and entertainment of all kinds, as well as there are other areas all to know and learn about. In short. a true megalopolis. The colonial area is among the oldest in all of Latin America.
Here is Calle Las Damas, considered the oldest street in the Americas. It was built in 1502 during the Spanish colonial period, under the supervision of Governor Nicolás de Ovando. This street is named after the ladies of the court of Viceregina María de Toledo, wife of Diego Columbus (son of Christopher Columbus), who frequently walked it.”
What are the must-visit places in the Dominican Republic?
“We carry out itinerant trips. The island is quite large because in length it is almost half the size of Italy, while in width, in the highest part, we are talking about 450 kilometers, up to the most extreme part, consisting of Punta Cana.
The areas that we generally have all our clients visit, regardless of the length of the trip and, therefore, even for those staying on the island for a maximum of nine nights and ten days, are essentially three. These are the Bayahibe area, the capital city of Santo Domingo, and the Samaná Peninsula area, which includes wonderful places like Las Terrenas and Las Galeras. A triangulation of dreamy places that represents a sort of minimum standard to visit in the Dominican Republic. Unless the client himself asks not to touch these locations during his stay on the island.
This is the basic trip, in short, but if one has the time to stay a few more days, clients are directed to other magnificent places on the Island, all to be discovered. There is, for example, the whole southern part of the Dominican Republic, which is a beautiful area, but still not fully touristed and explored. Here, one can experience the island in a more relaxing way. Also, for those who like the mountains, there is the Cordillera area where you can do some incredible hiking even with Paragliders.”
Why do what are generally called excursions become experiences with Caribbean Journeys?
“The simple excursion shows you a tourist place, we, on the other hand, offer you a real experience because we make you visit places that a normal tourist from other tour operators would normally not propose. This is because, at Caribe Travels, we take you to places and beaches where generally only locals get to, because only they know them.
This is the difference between simple excursions and experiences that you can only do with our help or through that of a Dominican, because we are in fact Dominicans. Ours is a Dominican company, our staff is all Dominican. We use, of course, exclusively local staff, so you always feel at home.
We then also have Italian, French, Spanish, and English collaborators, but everything we do visit on the island is still proposed by Dominicans or by myself and close associates who know the Dominican Republic like the back of their hand. We whatever we sell, we have already tested it anyway. All you have to do is pack your bags and head to the airport; because once you arrive at your destination we will be at your disposal 24 hours a day and you won’t have to worry about anything.”
