One of the hardest beaches in the Dominican Republic to reach, but at the same time most beautiful and relaxing to enjoy and experience
Paradise meets earth and merges into a pristine Eden of beauty and magic. Among the beaches in the Dominican Republic that are perhaps lesser known and less visited, but still enchanting, we find the rare clarity and tranquility of Bahia de las Aguilas (Bay of Eagles).
Located in Jaragua National Park, in the province of Pedernales, in the extreme southwest of the Dominican Republic, the beach in question is the last settlement before the border with Haiti and is a protected and conservation area of the Dominican government.
The name Bahía de las Águilas derives from the presence of eagles that once populated the area and from the shape that the bay takes when viewed from above, which resembles, precisely, the outline of an eagle with outstretched wings. The natural conformation of the coastline and cliffs contribute to this impression, especially when these are viewed from an aerial angle. This beach is recognized as one of the most beautiful in the World, with a sea of turquoise-blue colors and a beach about 10 km long.
Beaches in the Dominican Republic, a dip between relaxation and peace of mind
What makes Bahia de las Aguilas unique is that it is located in a place that is difficult to reach and, therefore, you can often find a maximum of a hundred people, and at other times you are completely alone, with the park attendant. All this, makes this place magical, but above all one of the most coveted places for hours or days of relaxation and almost complete solitude.
Located in the Caribbean it is, therefore, ideal for all those who perhaps are stressed, really want to unplug and relax for a few days. A stay of at least four days is recommended if you want to have a unique experience and immerse yourself in a true Earthly Paradise that completely alienates you from the World and the stress of everyday life.
Long, off-white beach where the sand is as soft and fine as talcum powder and the water clear, clear, and transparent. Another real asset of one of the most beautiful beaches in the Dominican Republic is thebird life in the area. As many as 130 different species of birds are present. Some of these can even be seen with the naked eye and remain in place throughout the year, while others only pass through during a certain period, that of migration.
The reason Bahía de las Aguilas is so unique and little visited lies in the fact that it is difficult to reach without means and connections, which contributes to its fame and the unique charm of this remote part of beach in the Dominican Republic.
Bahía de las Aguilas is difficult to reach mainly due to its geographical location and limited road infrastructure and is located in one of the most isolated areas of the country.
Main reasons that make access to Bahia de las Aguilas complicated
- Dirt roads and some unpaved: the roads leading to the bay, at least as far as the last few kilometers are concerned, are mostly unpaved and in poor condition. 4×4 cars are needed to deal with the bumpy terrain of the last bit before reaching Bahia de Las Aguilas.
- Distance to major cities: The Bay is several hours’ drive from the country’s major cities and tourist areas. From the capital, Santo Domingo, for example, the journey takes about 6-7 hours by car.
- Lack of tourism infrastructure: The surrounding area is still underdeveloped in terms of tourism, which means there are not many accommodations or services nearby. This discourages mass tourism, keeping the bay pristine, but also complicates access.
For these reasons, the trip to Bahía de las Águilas requires more careful organization, but the pristine beauty of the beach and the absolute uniqueness of the experience ensure that it is always worth it.
Of course, being accompanied directly by a Dominican on the Bay, which is what Caribe Journeys offers you, gives you the chance to have a quiet, serene and 100% unique experience.
